# Change several shifts at the same time in a shift rotation

In a shift rotation in Capitech Flow, you can change several shifts at the same time. You can copy, delete, or change shifts for one employee, use multi-select to change selected shifts, or use mass editing to change shifts for several employees without selecting each shift manually.

## Four ways to change several shifts

You can change multiple shifts in four ways:

| **Option** | **Used when** | **What you can do** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Copy or delete shifts for one employee** | All shifts for one employee in the shift rotation are to be copied or deleted. | Copy or delete shifts assigned to the employee in the shift rotation. |
| **Change X shifts for one employee** | Multiple shifts for one employee should get the same change. | Change, for example, shift, department, project, or other dimensions. |
| **Multi-select** | You want to manually select specific shifts to change. | Select multiple shifts and change selected shifts in one action. |
| **Mass editing of shifts** | You want to change all shifts for one or more employees without selecting individual shifts. | Retrieve shifts for selected employees and change multiple shifts collectively. |

## Copy or delete all shifts for one employee

Here's how to do it:

1. Go to the relevant shift rotation.
2. Click the employee’s name in the column on the left.
3. Select Copy or Delete.

You can then copy or delete all shifts that have been added to the employee in the relevant shift rotation.

Click the name of another employee and select Paste to add the same shifts to another employee.

## Change X shifts for one employee

If you need to change one or more dimensions on the shifts for an employee in the shift rotation, you can use **Change X shifts**.

How to do it:

1. Go to the relevant shift rotation.
2. Click the employee’s name in the column on the left.
3. Select **Change X shifts**.
4. Tick the field you want to change, for example **Department**.
5. Select the new value.
6. Click **Change X shifts**.

All shifts included in the selection are then updated in the shift rotation.

When you only tick one field, for example **Department**, only that field is changed. The other dimensions on the shifts are kept.

## Use multi-select to change multiple shifts

**Multi-select** is used when you want to select several shifts in the shift rotation and perform the same action on all selected shifts.

This is useful when the shifts are not necessarily assigned to the same employee, but you still want to handle them together.

### Multi-select with keyboard shortcuts

Here's how you do it:

1. Hold down the **Ctrl** key.
2. Click the shifts you want to select.
3. Right-click one of the selected shifts.
4. Select **Edit**.
5. Tick the field you want to change, for example Department.
6. Select the new value.
7. Click **Change X shifts.**

### Multi-select with manual control

How to do it:

1. Click **Start multi-select** at the top right.
2. Select the shifts you want to select.

On a PC, hold down the **Ctrl** key while selecting shifts.

On a tablet, you do not need to hold down the **Ctrl** key.

3. Press and hold one of the selected shifts if you are using a tablet, or right-click if you are using a PC.
4. Select **Edit**.
5. Tick the field you want to change, for example **Department**.
6. Select the new value from the drop-down menu.
7. Click **Change X shifts**.

## Mass editing of shifts

Mass editing is used when you want to change selected dimensions for shifts assigned to one or more employees, without selecting individual shifts directly in the shift rotation.

This is useful if several employees need changes to, for example:

- shift
- department
- project
- skill
- other dimensions

### Change several shifts for employees without selecting individual shifts

How to do it:

1. Go to the relevant shift rotation.
2. Click the icon in the top left corner for **Change shifts, select employees**.
3. Select the relevant employees in the menu that appears on the right side of the screen.
4. Click **Retrieve shifts to be changed**.
5. Tick the field you want to change, for example **Department**.
6. Select the new value from the drop-down menu.
7. Click **Change X shifts**.

All shifts included in the selection are then updated in the shift rotation. The other dimensions on the shifts are kept.
