# How are overtime and compensation calculated in Capitech?

Overtime and compensation are calculated according to the settings configured for your organization. Calculations may be based on times of day, day types, special days, and employee groups. Submit a support ticket if this needs to be changed.

## What does this cover?

Capitech can automatically calculate different types of hours and compensation.

Examples include:

- regular hours
- 50% overtime
- 100% overtime
- evening compensation
- other customer-specific forms of compensation

How these are calculated depends on your organization’s settings.

## How does this work in practice?

Calculations may be based on:

- the times covered by the registration
- the day to which the registration applies
- whether the day is defined as a public holiday or special day
- the rules that apply to the employee or situation

This means that the same working hours may be calculated differently for different customers, depending on their settings.

## Calculations are often controlled by employee groups

For many customers, overtime and compensation are largely controlled through **employee groups**.

This makes it possible to apply different calculation logic to different types of employees. For example, you may have one group that only receives regular hours and other groups that follow separate overtime and compensation rules based on collective agreements.

If employees receive different calculations, it may be because they belong to different employee groups with different calculation rules.

## When is this relevant to you?

This article is relevant if you:

- want to understand why overtime or compensation is calculated in a particular way

## How to get started

If you want to change how overtime or compensation is calculated, submit a support request to [support@capitech.no](mailto:support@capitech.no).

Describe:

- which rules you want to change
- which employees or employee groups the change applies to
- whether the change is related to a collective agreement or other agreed calculation logic
- the date from which the change should apply
- specific examples of times and the expected result, if possible

## Important information

Changes to overtime and compensation may affect:

- the payroll basis
- costs
- reports
- working time monitoring

These changes should therefore always be carefully assessed before they are put into production.
