# Tasks

Tasks are a dimension used to register time for different tasks in your organization. You can find tasks under Admin - Dimensions - Task if the task dimension is enabled for your organization.

## What is a task?

Tasks are used when you want registered hours to be linked to specific tasks.

This may be relevant if employees need to select what they worked on when registering time in **My Capitech**, or when hours are registered in **Capitech Flow**.

## Where do you find tasks?

You can find tasks here:

**Admin - Dimensions - Task**

This menu option is only displayed or used if the task dimension is enabled for your organization.

## Important before creating or editing tasks

If calculations for hours, compensation, or overtime are linked to tasks in your organization, contact Capitech before creating or editing tasks.

Changes may affect calculations and the payroll basis.

Contact [support@capitech.no](mailto:support@capitech.no) if you are unsure whether tasks are used in calculation rules or payroll exports.

## How to add a task

Tasks are added for each department.

Here's how:

1. Go to **Admin - Dimensions - Department**
2. Find the department where you want to add the task
3. Click **Tasks** on the department row
4. Click the **plus sign** in the upper-left corner
5. Enter a name for the task
6. Enter an appropriate description
7. Click **Save**

The task will then be available for that department.

### **How to enable tasks**

Before you can use tasks, the dimension must be enabled in client settings.

Here's how:

1. Save the change
2. Go to **Admin - Client settings**
3. Open the **Dimensions** tab
4. Find the **Register** section
5. Select **Task**
6. Save the change

Once the dimension is enabled, tasks can be selected when registering time.

## Tasks are maintained for each department

Tasks are created and maintained for each department.

This means that different departments can have different tasks.

For example, one department may have its own tasks that are not relevant to other departments.

## If you want the same tasks in multiple departments

If you want to use the same tasks across multiple departments, use the same task number.

This is important for reporting, as matching tasks can then be interpreted consistently across departments.

## Deactivate tasks that are no longer used

You can deactivate tasks that are no longer used.

This gives employees fewer options when registering time and makes it easier to select the correct task.
